This is a traditional eastern mutton dish with cabbage. The mutton provides a great boost of energy while the cabbage supplements the mutton in more than just flavour. The dish is great when served with other similar dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder

  • 2 tbsp Red chilli powder

  • 2 tbsp Coriander powder

  • 2 tbsp Salt

  • 2 tbsp Curry Powder

  • 1 tbsp Cumin powder

  • 1 Cup fried onions

  • 1 Cup Oil

  • 2 tbsp Garlic and Ginger Paste

  • 1 Cup Onion small cut

  • 0.5 tbsp Cumin seeds

  • 4 Green Cardamoms

  • 1 Cinnamon Sticks

  • 2 Black Cardamoms

  • ¼ Nutmeg

  • 2 tbsp Garam masala powder

  • 2 kg Mutton

  • 1 Whole Green Cabbage

Instructions

Marinate the Meat

In a cooking pot, add in the meat followed by the masala and the onions. Also, add the garlic and ginger paste and curry powder. Let’s also add the coriander and cumin powder. Also, add the turmeric powder ad red chilli powder as well as the salt and fried onions.

Next, add the garam masala powder and some oil. Finally, add in the ingredients for the garam masala piece and ensure to give the pot a good mix.

Cover the lid and place the cooking pot on a hub for ten minutes on a medium flame. After ten minutes, the meat should be cooked and you should start to see some water come out. Close the lid and wait for a further ten minutes.

After ten minutes, remove the lid and the meat should look well cooked. The masala should have also mixed into the meat.

Adding the Cabbage

In the same pot, let’s add the cabbage in small portions. Don’t add too much in one go as it will be hard to mix. After adding a little cabbage, mix the pot. The cabbage will become soft. Continue to add the cabbage into the pot until it becomes soft. This may take about 3-5 attempts to add all the cabbage to the cooking pot.

Once you have added all the cabbage, close the lid for fifteen minutes.

You can also optionally add some fresh coriander to provide a fresher taste. Give a final mix to the pot and it is now ready to serve

Benefits

  • Meat provides iron and is the main source of vitamin B12

  • Meat is a great source of protein
