Restaurant Style Mixed Dal is a popular mixed dal/lentil recipe from India where lentils are cooked, tempered with choice of ghee, spices, and masala.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chana Dal (250 ml)

  • 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder

  • 3 tbsp oil

  • 8-10 Red Chilies

  • 2 tbsp Salt

  • 2 tbsp Coriander Powder

  • 1 ½ tbsp Cumin Powder

  • 1 ½ tbsp Red chilli Powder

  • 1 cup Cherry Tomatoes

  • 1 cup Red Lentils (250 ml)

  • 1 Fresh Garlic cut

  • 1 cup boiled Chick Peas (250 ml)

  • 1 cup White Peas (Gota motor 250 ml)

  • 1 cup Baked Beans (250 ml)

  • 1 cup Muk Dal

  • 2 tbsp Garam masala

  • 1 cup Fresh Coriander

  • 1 cup Red Kidney Beans boil (250 ml)

  • 2 Medium Onions

  • 1000 ml of Water

Place an empty cooking pot on your cooker and add in some oil allowing it to heat up. Next, add your garlic and allow it to cook into a rich brown colour. Next, add your onion and give it a good mix.

Now let's add the salt and give the cooking pot a mix. Place the lid on the cooking pot for about 5 minutes to allow the onion to slow. Make sure to remove the lid about every 1 or so to ensure that the onion is not burning.

After 5 minutes, add the turmeric and chilli powder. Let's also add the coriander powder as well as the cumin powder. Make sure to give a mix as we have added a number of spices. Also, add half a cup of water to prevent our base from burning.

Cover the cooking pot with a lid to allow the base to slow cook. Do this for about 2-3 minutes.

Adding the Dal's

Let's add the white motor as well as the chana dal. We will also add the baked beans and then give it a good mix ensuring that the dal's and paste are really well mixed. Cover the cooking pot for about 15 minutes. Remove the lid every 1-2 minutes ensuring that the dal does not burn.

After 15 minutes, add half a cup of water and then place the lid back on the cooking pot for about 10 minutes to allow the dal to become soft. Let's add muk dal as well as the red dal. Again, give it another good mix. Place the lid back on the cooking pot for 5 minutes. This will allow all our currently added dal to fully cook.

As before, make sure to give it a mix every 2-3 minutes to ensure it does not burn.

Now, let's add our chickpeas and red kidney beans. Make sure to mix the newly added peas and beans. Once mixed, let's add the tomatoes and the remaining water. Once done, again make sure to give it a really good mix.

Adding the remaining ingredients

Let's add the red chillies and the garam masala. Once done, let's give the mixed dal dish a soft mix and place the lid back on the cooking pot for 15 minutes on a high flame.

Your mixed dal should now be soft and fully cooked. Before serving, let's add some fresh coriander to help boost the flavour and provide a fresh taste.

Your mixed dal is now ready to be served.
