Chotpoti is a well known Bengali street food popular in Bangladesh. It is usually served hot and contains chickpeas and onions topped with diced chillies.


Ingredients


Boiling Peas:

  • 0.5 tbsp Turmeric Powder

  • 2 tbsp Garlic and Ginger Paste

  • 1 tbsp Salt

  • 1 tbsp Baking Soda

  • 500 grams White Peas

  • 1.5 millilitre Water

Place an empty cooking pot on your cooker and place the peas inside. Also, add in the water. Let's also add in the turmeric powder as well as the salt. Next, add in the baking soda and give the cooking pot a good mix. Let's also add in the garlic paste and ginger paste. Now let's close the lid and leave it for 20-25 minutes on a medium flame.


After 20-25 minutes, open the lid and check that the peas have fully cooked. Do this by trying to split a pea using a spoon.


Turmeric Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp Cumin Powder

  • 1 tbsp Himalayan Salt

  • 1 tbsp Sugar

  • 1 tbsp Coriander Powder

  • 1 tbsp Chat Masala Powder

  • 2 tbsp Crushed Red Chillies

  • Turmeric Water


Get your turmeric water and pour the salt and cumin powder into it and give it a mix. Next, add the coriander powder as well as the chaat masala powder. Also, let's add in the crushed let chillies as well as the sugar. Now give the sauce a really good mix.


Your turmeric sauce should now be ready.


Nimky Dough


In am empty cooking pot, add in some dough, kali Jira and water and start to mix the dough. If the dough feels too soft then you can add in some more water.


Start to roll the dough on a kitchen top surface, ensure to pour some flour on the kitchen top to stop the dough from sticking to it. Roll out your dough until it is a large think circle using a rolling pin.


Once done, start to cut out some strips from the dough using a small knife. Keep cutting until you have diamond cut out shapes in the dough.


Frying the Nimky


Put a pan on your cooker with some oil in it and allow the oil to heat up. Once the oil is hot, place your Nimky dough pieces in and allow them to fry. Once done, your Nimky should now be ready for later. Make sure to remove the Nimky from the pan and place on a plate.


Chotpoti Mix:

  • 1 Green Lime

  • 5 Green Chillies

  • 1 Medium Onion

  • 1 Tomato

  • 1 Cup Coriander

  • 3 Hard Boiled Eggs

  • 2 Medium Potatoes

  • 1 Cup Cucumber

  • Turmeric Sauce

  • 1 Cup Boiled Carrots

  • 1 Packet Nimky

  • Boiled White Peas


From earlier, in your peas bowl, put in the potatoes and give it a good mix. Next, add the green chillies as well as the onions. Also, add in the coriander as well as the tomatoes. Now add in your Nimky. Make sure to crash the Nimky as you add them in. Now mix the entire bowl.


Feel free to add in any other additional ingredients such as cut onions, more Nimky, carrots, cucumber etc.


Your Nimky is now ready to be served.
